I have operated within the framework of computer music for about a year now. This is a relatively new space that I have inhabited, but I have learned a lot very quickly, and much of the space's philosophy has affected my ideas on sound, composition, and others. Those who introduced me to this space are Dr. Matthew Goodheart, and Dr. Rob Hamilton, both have taught me many things during my stay at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
As of 2025, I wield my CPU via Ge Wang's ChucK. This is an "On-the-fly" programming language used to generate sound and music. ChucK operates similar to C++ and C, with differences in syntax, and simplification of audio processing and routing. In ChucK, I have created granular synths, chaotic delay lines, and controllers for the aforementioned using input from your mouse/trackpad and keyboard. The language is very easy to pickup, and works great for those trained in classical/traditional Western music. Did I mention it's free? Check it out here!
